Drawn to the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, Dana finds inspiration in the quiet grandeur of the rainforest. Influenced by the painters of the 1930's including Canada's own "Group of Seven", Dana's unique style has been described as "Emily Carr meets Dr. Seuss".
Living in Vancouver, where nature cannot be ignored, Dana turns her artistic expression toward the spacious forests of ancient trees, emerald green rivers and the moody weather around it all. Dana is a noticeable presence in the North American art scene.
Nature has always been an influence in Dana's life. Having grown up in rural northern British Columbia she was exposed to hunting, fishing, canoeing and hiking throughout childhood and as a young adult. Her travels and work experience have taken her to the tops of mountains in the Kootenays, to the frozen prairies in northern Alberta, to the Rocky Mountains and across Canada to Ontario and Quebec. Dana has developed a reverence for the natural majesty of this country and it is evident in her painting.
At the West End Gallery, 1203 Broad Street, Victoria

Jeremy Herndl: Human Nature April 10 - 24, 2021   Madrona Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new paintings by Jeremy Herndl.   "Human Nature" is a collection of work that combines the natural landscape with big industry, inviting viewers to look at the beautiful and often contradictory connections between humans and their surrounding environment.    Of these works, Herndl says "As a landscape painter, ideas about land use, colonialism, privilege, and environment shape the way I look at places. I am interested in the stories embedded in place and how people and place are intertwined and expressive of one another. More and more, I am learning about how the body is affected by the environment, the air and water, and how that environment is shaped by human use."   Jeremy Herndl received his bachelor of fine arts from NSCAD in 1996 and his master of applied arts from Emily Carr in 2011. In 2019, Herndl was the recipient of the Helen Frankenthaler Fellowship and is currently the artist in residence for the Fairy Creek blockade.

Song Like a Seed; An Earth Day Concert with Sara Thomsen
    Fundraiser for Bowker Creek
Originally scheduled as an in-person concert for Earth Day 2020, it had to be cancelled because of COVID. You will not want to miss this one, as well as joining us in support of the important work of daylighting Bowker Creek.
This concert will bring to you a packet of songs like seeds to care for the earth and each other. Plant them in the crumbling cracks around your heart, your country, your world. It will be a healing balm, a call to action, to blossom, to fruit, to harvest. Each note a nudge to kindle the heart, to raise up voices, to plant our own songs, our dreams, like seeds.
    About Sara Thomsen
