As a person who has worked 21 years with the BC Ministry of Forests and 6 years at a BC forest company headquarters, I can state that BC forests are not managed by the Ministry of Forests. They are, in fact, managed by a handful of global forest corporations who coordinate though the Council of Forest Industries. They decide what is logged and what they will pay for the timber. They sell the wood to their offshore affiliates below market value to avoid paying taxes in Canada. The Americans are correct that we taxpayers subsidize the export of our timber.
