Join us in the Bateman Gallery on January 21 for a book reading with our NatureSketch educator and children's book illustrator, Sue Macartney. Illustrated with Sue’s lively, light graphic art style, Benjamin’s Blue Feet is a playful, jovial picture book about self-image and self-worth. Packed with humour and heart, it is sure to become a new storytime favorite. On January 21 at 2:00 pm, Sue will present a reading of Benjamin's Blue Feet, followed by a fun and interactive art activity in the Bateman Gallery's library and lounge. This event is FREE with the cost of regular gallery admission, or free for our members. You can purchase the book from the Bateman Gallery Shop and online.

Join us for a special book talk with award-winning writer, conservation photographer, book author, and documentary filmmaker, Isabelle Groc. This evening will include a conversation with the writer about her book Conservation Canines: How Dogs Work the Environment. Isabelle will provide a rare glimpse into dogs’ working lives, celebrate the human-animal bond, and revisit our relationship with dogs in our lives and the natural world. Isabelle will share her passion for wildlife conservation and the relationships between people and the natural world, especially about how dogs work with humans to protect endangered wildlife. There will also be a special canine scent demonstration by Victoria-based dog instructor Janet Parker, who will show us how nose work can also benefit pet dogs! A book signing will be available after the talk and demonstration. RSVP at https://batemanfoundation.org/event/book-talk-conservation-canines-with-isabelle-groc/ to reserve your spot.

The Robert Bateman: Heart & Home exhibit illuminates the inspirations, connections and soul of an artist steeped in nature. The collection is comprised of extraordinary artwork and pieces, some never-before-seen and meant for an audience of one. It captures the intimate occasions of birthdays, holidays, and the love that Robert Bateman shares with his close family and friends. Just like capturing the fleeting moments of light in the natural world, Robert savours the moments of creating gifts to express his care. Step into Robert’s studio and be immersed in the artist’s space. In the next room, you’ll enter a Bateman Christmas in the 90s with a 54” sculpted Nutcracker with a mischievous grin standing beside a handcrafted Christmas crèche. The journey continues with paintings, drawings, and furniture pieces gifted to loved ones. The gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 4:00 PM. Late night admission by donation every third Thursday of the month from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Tickets at door only: Children (0-4) $0, Youth (5-16) $6, Seniors/Students $8.50, Adults $10.
