Carolyn Houg's sculptures are whimsical and full of personality, often placing subjects in unexpected situations. Each piece invites us to pause and reflect on the shared connections between all living beings. Carolyn studied Fine Arts in Montreal and Edmonton, working in oils, acrylics, printmaking and concrete before falling in love with clay. Now based on Vancouver Island, she brings decades of artistic exploration to her ceramic sculptures, a celebration of character, connection and creativity. Visit REGALIA: an art show celebrating traditional, sacred and ceremonial dress and objects. See Elizabeth Carefoot’s work exploring regalia through stitch, fabric and paint, poking gentle fun of the things people wear to show off their status.
Wearing regalia is a powerful, non-verbal communicator that shows respect for the occasion and a sense of control for the wearer.
Donning regalia brings a feeling of celebration and tradition, and symbolizes power, authority and legitimacy.
Please join us for the Opening Celebration on Thursday, August 27, 5:00-7:00pm. If you feel adventurous, it would be delightful if you would wear something wild, unusual or off-the-wall - let’s all let our hair down and have some fun!

Again this year, a group of artists and creatives in the greater Fernwood area are opening their studios, homes and gardens to visitors. This year there are 20 locations in both Fernwood and Oaklands, featuring more than two dozen artists showing a wide variety of local art. There will be paintings, both abstract and realistic, ceramics, jewelry, garden art, printmaking, photography and collage. There’s even a roaming storyteller.
Since its beginning in 2008, this free, family-friendly event has welcomed guests who want to see and possibly purchase art of a variety of types. Visitors can enjoy strolling leafy streets, many with heritage homes and gardens, and exploring back yard studios and gardens full of art in one of the oldest parts of Victoria.
Brochures are being distributed to local businesses and stores around town with a detailed map of the venues and details about the participating artists.
Some artists also offer activities for families with children, and many of the locations are wheelchair accessible. Visitors can stroll the neighbourhood, enjoy food and beverages in Fernwood’s cafes and bistros, and view or purchase a wide variety of art at reasonable prices.
As an added bonus this year, the Fernwood Art Stroll is collaborating with the Fernwood Cat Walk, who's event is on Saturday, May 30th. Some of the Art Stroll participants are showing their cats as well was their art.

Three Victoria artists present Writ Large - Contemporary Works on Paper
Three Victoria artists draw on their pasts as professional writers and editors to exhibit a collection of large-format works inspired by the emotional and intellectual energy of written language.
Georgina Montgomery, Louise Oborne, and MaryLou Wakefield use words and text as part of their visual language to amplify a compelling idea, question, or life experience personally meaningful to them.
In this series, the artists demonstrate their individual stylistic approaches to interpreting 'Writ Large' and invite viewers to find their own meaning and interpretation in the works.
Writ Large will be on at arc.hive artist run centre October 4 - 19 and open for viewing Saturdays and Sundays from 12 - 4 pm.
An opening reception with the artists in attendance will be on Friday, October 3, from 7 - 9 pm.
