We are thrilled to welcome sculptor Loretta Kyle to The Avenue Gallery!
Loretta Kyle was born in Hemmingford, Quebec and resides in Kelowna, British Columbia. She studied Biological Sciences, Laboratory and Research at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in the 1980s. She has been sculpting stone since 1987 and has worked full time in her practice since 1997. Her work has been exhibited across Canada, including major exhibitions in Toronto and throughout Alberta, as well as internationally.   I am all about stone. Perhaps I envy its ability to be strong and brittle, hard and soft, abrasive and silky smooth, utilitarian and soulful, abundantly ordinary and exotically beautiful, oxidizingly dull, vibrantly colourful, sensual and cold. - Loretta Kyle   View Loretta Kyle's sculptures on The Avenue Gallery's website: Loretta Kyle - The Avenue Gallery   Image: Young Nesters by Loretta Kyle – Brazilian soapstone, 2 ½" x 2 ¾" x 4 ⅜"

Three Victoria artists present Writ Large - Contemporary Works on Paper

Three Victoria artists draw on their pasts as professional writers and editors to exhibit a collection of large-format works inspired by the emotional and intellectual energy of written language.
Georgina Montgomery, Louise Oborne, and MaryLou Wakefield use words and text as part of their visual language to amplify a compelling idea, question, or life experience personally meaningful to them.
In this series, the artists demonstrate their individual stylistic approaches to interpreting 'Writ Large' and invite viewers to find their own meaning and interpretation in the works.
Writ Large will be on at arc.hive artist run centre October 4 - 19 and open for viewing Saturdays and Sundays from 12 - 4 pm.
An opening reception with the artists in attendance will be on Friday, October 3, from 7 - 9 pm.
For more information about the artists and the exhibition, visit www.writ-large.art
