Architectures of Protection reflects on ideas and modes of protection and refuge – with regards to oneself, to community, knowledge, culture, identity, and land. What are these spaces and practices? What is protection for some and not for others? Together, in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and in the current global social and political climate, the artworks in Architectures of Protection direct critical attention towards systems and structures that shape and impact everyday and sacred environments and encounters, alongside individual and collective relationships with the land.
This exhibition features artworks by Dana Claxton, Jessica Karuhanga, Emilio Rojas, Beth Stuart, and France Trépanier.

Featuring local and international artists in Victoria's Inner Harbour Free to attend performances during the day, ticketed event at night. Toronto-based 7-piece supergroup Bywater Call mixes southern soul, blues, and roots music with the passion to create a powerful and moving experience for listeners. Shows have been praised by European media for years, with lead singer Meghan Parnell lauded as one of the best female voices in blues and roots today. The band has also received multiple Independent Blues and Canadian Maple Blues Award nominations including “Entertainer, Electric Act,” and “Best Female Vocalist” for the 2024 Awards Season. Their newest album, Shepherd (2024), has garnered rave reviews, and was selected as the “Blues Album of the Year” by the UK’s Classic Rock Magazine. With elements of jam band, traditional blues, soul, and rock and roll, touches of New Orleans, Alabama, and small-town Ontario, influences from The Band, Duane Allman, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Black Crowes, and the Tedeschi Trucks Band, and gritty, raw, emotional vocals, Bywater Call strikes to the core. Opening for this evening will be Victoria swing band Slim Sandy’s Atomic Cocktails. ALL THREE NIGHTS for $99!
