    Join us on April 25th to hear senior local architect Shiv Garyali present an overview of his life’s work, with a focus on his wide-ranging career in and around Victoria. Mr. Garyali will speak about some of his early influences as a young student of architecture in India, as well as his time working in the office of Arthur Erickson in the 1970s. He will show how these experiences have informed his outlook and career as one of Victoria’s leading architects for over three decades.

    Born in Kashmir, India,  Shiv was educated in Delhi. There he worked with one of the top architectural firms as an associate Architect. In 1968 he travelled to Canada via Europe. In 1972 he joined Arthur Erickson architects in Toronto and moved to Arthur’s office in Vancouver in 1975. In 1979 Shiv moved to Victoria and joined Marshall Goldsworthy Architects. In 1990 he started the private practice of Garyali Architect Inc. with Don Marshall. Soon after he established the  core team of Shiv Garyali, John Armitage, and Nick Fiocco to promote sustainable Architecture in Victoria, Sidney, Duncan, Nanaimo,Tofino and Whistler.

    2025 Spring Show
    Saanich Peninsula Arts & Crafts Society is a non-profit organization celebrating its 72nd Anniversary in 2025. One of its main roles is to promote member artists and their work. SPAC’s annual Spring Art Show, held at the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney, is its premier event.
    The Spring Art Show is recognized island-wide as a superior exhibition and sale of original paintings, sculpture, clay, glass, fibre and textile arts, jewellry, metal and wood. Enjoy our expanded Gallery space this year, shop in our very popular Gift Shop and bring a friend for coffee.

    RAW STOCK Film Collective in partnership with FLUX Media Gallery in Victoria, are running an Analogue Sound workshop.
    "Make Your Own Microphone and Noise-Box" Ever wanted to work with sound and produce something unique and original? But you had a creativity block or lacked the skills?
    Well now is your chance to learn how to make simple devices which create unique and imaginative sounds and bring new inspiration to your film and video soundtracks or art projects. Instructor: Dave Johnson (founding member of RAW STOCK Film Collective)
    Cost: $50

    Participants will construct a microphone and a noise-box to record and create experimental soundtracks! Participants will receive materials along with a small shopping list they need
    to purchase on their own before the workshop. Most items can be found at your local Dollar store! No previous knowledge of sound recording or soldiering electronics and wires required! Materials participants will be using: 2x Piezo disc (pre-soldiered), two cables (¼ inch) precut, Stripped, and labeled. Small springs, wood screws, hot glue gun, tin foil, electrical tape, drill, finishing nails, hammer, wire cutters, angle cutters. Shopping list for participants: A jar lid or small tin can (a tuna can also works well), Wooden box (Best results are about the size of a cigar box). In addition to these items, Participants are encouraged to bring materials with rough surfaces or textures.

    In honour of Earth Day 2025, Oak Bay United Church is hosting an all-ages community art & storytelling event, featuring author Robert “Lucky” Budd.

    The event will begin at 2 pm (doors at 1:45 pm), with Budd telling the traditional Northwest Coast legend Orca Chief in the sanctuary. 
    Afterwards, all are invited to the downstairs Community Hall for hands-on art activities for all ages. Light refreshments will be available.

    Admission by donation: suggested minimum donation $5 per person on $10 for a family (no one will be turned away for lack of funds)

    Entry to the Oak Bay United Church Sanctuary is via Granite St.

    Accessibility: for those with limited mobility, the OBUC Sanctuary can be reached by an accessibility lift, located off Granite Street, just east of the main entrance ramp.
