The Victoria Guitar Society is pleased to welcome classical guitarist Marko Topchii, a recent GFA competition winner and globally sought artist.
Born into a musical family in Ukraine in 1991, Marko has garnered widespread acclaim for his exceptional talent and numerous competition victories. With over 100 awards in international classical guitar competitions, including First Prizes in prestigious events such as the International Guitar Competition Francisco Tarrega and the Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition in New York, Marko has established himself as a one of a kind musician in the classical guitar world.
Marko’s performances have graced some of the most esteemed venues worldwide including Carnegie Hall (New York), the Salle Cortot (Paris) and Yamaha Ginza Hall (Tokyo). His collaborations with orchestras, spanning more than 15 concertos for guitar and orchestra, showcase his depth and flexibility as a guitarist.
Marko Topchii's discography includes several solo albums recorded under legendary classical music labels, Naxos and Contrastes. His most recent Naxos recording was released in Spring 2024 as part of the prestigious Guitar Foundation of America’s Laureate Series.
Beginning his guitar studies at the age of four under Volodymyr Homenyuk, Marko went on to graduate from the Kharkiv Conservatory and pursue advanced studies under notable mentors like Volodymyr Dotsenko and Yuri Aleksik. In 2018, he joined the professional studies programme of the San Francisco Conservatory in the class of Judicaёl Perroy, with whom he continued his studies at Haute Ecole de Musique de Geneve as part of the Master Soloiste programme.
The classical guitar community is excited to have him visit Victoria.
Advance tickets available through Eventbrite $20-30. Visit www.victoriaguitarsociety.ca for more info.

Join us for our upcoming concert centered around Edvard Grieg's Fire Salmer. The programme will include a mix of sacred and secular music, including works by Bruckner, Mendelssohn, and Sibelius. One of the biggest differences between vocal and instrumental music is the inclusion of words and the variety that different languages bring to music! We are excited to share the beautiful Scandinavian and Finnish sounds that bring life and meaning to the notes on the page.

Octet Victoria is a fully professional group of eight singers who are committed to creating excellent choral music here in Victoria, BC. Having a mixed choir of eight different voices allows a large amount of flexibility for repertoire, and Octet Victoria has explored music from all time periods spanning Renaissance to modern day. While still a new group, founded by Char Hodgkins in 2022, Octet Victoria has performed some of the richest music from the choral tradition such as motets by J.S. Bach and J. Brahms, as well as a variety of new music including selections by Canadian composers such as Ruth Watson Henderson, Stephanie Martin, and Nathaniel Dett.
Octet Victoria makes music on the unceded ancestral lands of the lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen), now known as the Songhees and Esquimalt nations. We are grateful for their stewardship of these beautiful lands that nurture, inspire, and sustain us.
