Presenting Kimberly Kiel’s sixth solo exhibition at The Avenue Gallery, Here & Now, from September 25 to October 9. In this series, Kiel showcases her signature use of impasto and confident use of colour, with bold florals, expressive figures and powerful treescapes.   "I paint as an expression of joy and energy. There's pure delight in squeezing out generous piles of oil paint, squishing it around, letting it blend, meld, and combine. Wet paint, layered again and again, morphs into a tangible and compelling surface — thick, creamy, and rich with gorgeous impasto marks. I aim to leave much to the imagination, inviting the viewer to fill in the blanks. Transforming a blank white canvas into one bursting with brilliant, glorious colour brings immense satisfaction." - Kimberly Kiel   Image: 'Ahead of Myself I & II' by Kimberly Kiel – oil on canvas, 18 x 72 (diptych)   View 'Here & Now' on The Avenue Gallery's website: Current Exhibition - The Avenue Gallery

Three Victoria artists present Writ Large - Contemporary Works on Paper

Three Victoria artists draw on their pasts as professional writers and editors to exhibit a collection of large-format works inspired by the emotional and intellectual energy of written language.
Georgina Montgomery, Louise Oborne, and MaryLou Wakefield use words and text as part of their visual language to amplify a compelling idea, question, or life experience personally meaningful to them.
In this series, the artists demonstrate their individual stylistic approaches to interpreting 'Writ Large' and invite viewers to find their own meaning and interpretation in the works.
Writ Large will be on at arc.hive artist run centre October 4 - 19 and open for viewing Saturdays and Sundays from 12 - 4 pm.
An opening reception with the artists in attendance will be on Friday, October 3, from 7 - 9 pm.
