Moments of energetic rhythms mixed with beautiful nostalgia, Sydney-based trio Brekky Boy blends instrumental electronic jazz to evoke the emotions felt when watching a Studio Ghibli film. Drawing on artists such as GoGo Penguin, Tigran Hamasyan, and BADBADNOTGOOD, Brekky Boy has carved out an invigorating original sound that incorporates elements of jazz, electronic, rock & soundtrack. The Montreux Jazz Award nominees have sold out shows across Australia, as well as touring internationally, featured at SXSW, Montreux Jazz Festival, Jazzahead, Tallinn Music Week & more. Jobarteh is “Africa’s first female Griot kora virtuoso… blending traditional music, blues, and Afropop to impressive effect.” – The Guardian
Sona Jobarteh is the first female Kora virtuoso to come from one of five principal West African Griot families. The Kora, a 21-stringed African harp, belongs exclusively to Griot families, and Jobarteh is a pioneer in an ancient male-dominated hereditary practice. Reputed for her skill as an instrumentalist, distinctive voice, and her grace on stage, Jobarteh has rapidly risen to international success. As well as her dedication to spreading powerful humanitarian messages through her music, she is active in social change, as seen in the 2022 CBS TV 60 Minutes segment that explored how she singlehandedly set up The Gambia Academy – an institution dedicated to achieving educational reform across Africa. Her latest album, Badinyaa Kumoo, released in 2022, and she last appeared to a sold-out audience in Victoria in 2019 for TD JazzFest.
Opening for this evening will be STORRY

“Saskatoon, Canada has given us the pigeon berries, female hockey players who won the gold in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, and the ethereal neo-jazz voice of Katie Tupper… Listening, you ride the warm rhythm, transported at times to 90s hip hop, at other moments it feels like listening to an Allyn Ferguson or Charles Fox theme song.” – Beats Per Minute

Saskatoon-based 24-year-old neo-soul musician Katie Tupper is a boundary-pushing, genre-defying writer/producer that aims to connect listeners across genres and generations. With captivating lyrics and blending indie and neo-soul, Tupper’s music appeals to a wide range of audiences, as heard on her latest 2022 EP, “Towards The End”, and singles “Woman No”, and “Comfort.” She unveiled her debut single, “Live Inside,” in 2021, and her second single, “How Can I Get Your Love?” rose to #7 in the CBC Music Top 20 chart. After starting to make music professionally in early 2018, Katie Tupper has only just begun, and with her recent critically-acclaimed EP and songs, this upcoming star continues to rise. After twenty-three years together, six albums, and hundreds of concerts around half the world, the contemporary jazz trio from Galicia, Spain known as Sumrrá is undoubtedly one of the most convincing trios on the Spanish jazz scene. Since 2000, these three musicians have captivated critics and audiences alike, with an unclassifiable and melodic jazz that highlights the originality of its compositions and the freshness of its live performances. Pianist Manuel Gutierrez, bassist Xacobe Martínez Antelo, and drummer L.A.R. Legido, now present 7 Visions, a new record that brings a new perspective to understanding live music.  Their familiarity with each other makes it possible for them to blend individual interpretation into a sympathetic harmony. In their concerts, they present a truly unique and characteristic sound, full of power and drama, accompanied by large doses of technique, lyricism, swing, and even humour.
