    The Fab Fourever
    Saturday, March 14 • 7:30 PM

Be transported back to the age of peace, love and flower power.  THE FAB FOUREVER - CANADA’S PREMIERE TRIBUTE TO THE BEATLES is a musical production that will transport you back to a time when the music was the soundtrack to a generation.  Music that transported four mop tops from a little club in Liverpool to the apex of their profession, becoming the musical icons of the century.  THE FAB FOUREVER performs the monster hits “She Loves You”, “I Want to Hold Your Hand”, “Twist and Shout”, “Can’t Buy Me Love”, “A Hard Day’s Night”, “You Can't Do That”, “All My Loving”, “Things We Said Today”, “Roll Over Beethoven”, “If I Fell”, “Boys”, “Long Tall Sally” and more.
First and foremost, THE FAB FOUREVER are Beatle fans.  Their passion and energy onstage make for a tremendous show.  With vintage Beatle period specific instruments, and several full costume changes, THE FAB FOUREVER have spared no detail with this production from when the Fab Four first invaded America.
In 2018 and 2019 THE FAB FOUREVER were invited to represent Canada at the International Beatleweek in Liverpool, England.  Combined, they performed 21 shows over 13 days to an audience that represented some 50 countries worldwide. They have performed at the World Famous Cavern Club, the Lacarno Theatre (where the Beatles performed in 1963) and at the prestigious Adelphi Hotel Ballroom.

The UVic Voice Ensemble explores music composed by historical members of the English Royal Family from Richard the Lionheart to Albert, Prince Consort. The program, along with presenter Kieran Foss, seeks to discover the humanity left behind in the works of art, and appreciate these historical figures as people rather than institutional symbols. The music, spanning approximately 850 years, switches from troubadour songs to choral mass settings to German lieder, providing an evening of tremendous variety with something for everyone.

    Geology as Art (DRWGw173-3)
Did you ever collect rocks as a kid or perhaps you still like to collect them as you walk along the ocean? Geology, or the study of the earth’s surface provides an incredible source for the visual artist. This workshop focuses on three components of geology: striations, rock formations and crystal structures as subject matter for drawing. Examples of artists whose work is inspired by geology will be shown. Projects include using pencils, watercolour, collage and dirt. Suitable for beginners.

    Experimental Handwriting (DRWGw178-3)
This workshop will explore different ways you can generate your own forms of experimental handwriting through a series of exercises with mark making, obliteration and the fine art of gestural scribbling. Artists and calligraphers are now exploring ideas around asemic writing – writing without semantic content - but a form which produces powerful visual images. Your new forms of expression could find their home in your paintings and drawings as well as standing on their own as complete works of art. The processes of asemic writing can free you to be playful in making marks and help you discover the joy of creating with simple and unusual tools and materials. Bring eight to ten words – from a poem or prose piece – and these will form the basis for some of the writing. Suitable for beginners.

    TILLER'S FOLLY
    Sunday, March 15 at 2:00pm
    A St. Patricks Day Celebration!
A dramatic landscape of wild, unbridled beauty and rich, vibrant history.
For over twenty years, Tiller’s Folly have been uniting past with present as modern-day storytellers of lore, singing the West’s pioneer history to life. From the outset, the band aspired to create acoustic music that is thoughtful, progressive, yet timeless in nature. Music that represents their Pacific Coastal home. They set out to preserve a measure of the West’s colonial heritage in stories & songs.
Drawing influence from Scottish, Irish and Maritime Music traditions, Tiller’s Folly have continued to expand and refine their potent blend of Pacific Canadiana and ‘beyond.’

In a concert celebrating the UVic School of Music’s 12 years as an all-Steinway school, pianist Bruce Vogt performs a dynamic program of works by Franz Liszt and Frédéric Chopin, including a waltz and six Nocturnes.

Vogt will give a pre-concert talk at 1:30 PM about two titans of the piano — Chopin and Liszt — and their very different paths. Seating for the talk is limited, RSVP recommended. Please email [email protected] to reserve a seat.

Among the elite of Canadian pianists, Bruce Vogt is a unique and dynamic performer. He appears regularly in concert within Canada, but has also inspired audiences in England, the USA, Germany, France, Italy, Norway, Bulgaria, China, and Japan.

The School of Music became Canada’s very first all-Steinway school in 2008 when the university acquired 63 new Steinway pianos. All proceeds from this concert will benefit the Steinway Legacy Fund, dedicated to the enhancement and expansion of the school’s valuable family of instruments.
