Lache Cercel & The Roma Swing Ensemble
Fresh off recent performances in Romania, notably at The Nation Museum in Bucharest with Oliver Swain, Lache Cercel(violin) is cementing his reputation as one of the world’s leading Roma-Swing performers. They are currently booking a 2024 tour of Europe including dates in the EU and the Balkans.
Lache Cercel was born in Bucharest, Romania and studied at Romania’s prestigious Academy of Arts. In 1986 he was awarded the “Artist of the People'' citation from the Romanian government, one of the highest honours in the Balkans. Cercel’s music is firmly rooted in Roma (Gypsy) tradition, combined with Doina Klezmer, Middle Eastern, and European sounds held together with jazz improvisation. In the tradition of Django Reinhardt and Stephen Grappelli, Cercel lays down classical and improvisational jazz alongside traditional Roma melodies. https://lachecercel.com/
