Again this year, a group of artists and creatives in the greater Fernwood area are opening their studios, homes and gardens to visitors. This year there are 20 locations in both Fernwood and Oaklands, featuring more than two dozen artists showing a wide variety of local art. There will be paintings, both abstract and realistic, ceramics, jewelry, garden art, printmaking, photography and collage. There’s even a roaming storyteller.
Since its beginning in 2008, this free, family-friendly event has welcomed guests who want to see and possibly purchase art of a variety of types. Visitors can enjoy strolling leafy streets, many with heritage homes and gardens, and exploring back yard studios and gardens full of art in one of the oldest parts of Victoria.
Brochures are being distributed to local businesses and stores around town with a detailed map of the venues and details about the participating artists.
Some artists also offer activities for families with children, and many of the locations are wheelchair accessible. Visitors can stroll the neighbourhood, enjoy food and beverages in Fernwood’s cafes and bistros, and view or purchase a wide variety of art at reasonable prices.
As an added bonus this year, the Fernwood Art Stroll is collaborating with the Fernwood Cat Walk, who's event is on Saturday, May 30th. Some of the Art Stroll participants are showing their cats as well was their art.

Three Victoria artists present Writ Large - Contemporary Works on Paper
Three Victoria artists draw on their pasts as professional writers and editors to exhibit a collection of large-format works inspired by the emotional and intellectual energy of written language.
Georgina Montgomery, Louise Oborne, and MaryLou Wakefield use words and text as part of their visual language to amplify a compelling idea, question, or life experience personally meaningful to them.
In this series, the artists demonstrate their individual stylistic approaches to interpreting 'Writ Large' and invite viewers to find their own meaning and interpretation in the works.
Writ Large will be on at arc.hive artist run centre October 4 - 19 and open for viewing Saturdays and Sundays from 12 - 4 pm.
An opening reception with the artists in attendance will be on Friday, October 3, from 7 - 9 pm.

Bassist and vocalist Kristin Korb is celebrated worldwide for redefining the bass-and-voice format. A protégé of the legendary Ray Brown, Korb has sustained a three-decade international career spanning the United States and Europe. With more than a dozen albums as leader, including Sweet Dreams (2024) where she celebrates all things Eurythmics and Annie Lennox, she has performed on countless additional recordings. Korb’s buoyant swing feel and crystalline vocals recall Ella Fitzgerald while her bass virtuosity stands firmly in the Ray Brown tradition. Baltimore-born Bach Brass-endorsed trumpeter and composer Brandon Woody is one of the most compelling young voices in jazz. A graduate of the Peabody Conservatory, Woody has spent the past decade cultivating a sound rooted in spiritual jazz and Black American improvisational traditions. His ensemble, Upendo, reflects his commitment to collective uplift and deep listening. Hailed by The New York Times and Los Angeles Times as a rising force in contemporary jazz, Woody signed with the legendary Blue Note Records in November 2024 and released his debut album, For The Love Of It All, in May 2025. He has collaborated with artists such as Terri Lyne Carrington, BADBADNOTGOOD, Danilo Pérez, Casey Benjamin, Marcus Gilmore, the Robert Glasper Black Radio Orchestra, Paul Russell, Derrick Hodge, Marc Cary, and Solange Knowles. This marks his TD Victoria International JazzFest debut and his first performance in Victoria.

Clear out your clutter for a cause! Bring your old confidential documents for safe shredding by Record X Press Shredding and support end-of-life care in our community. Join us on Saturday, September 19, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Reynolds Secondary School.
Shredding is by donation, with a suggested donation of $10 per box. We take cash and credit card.
All proceeds support Victoria Hospice through our partnership with the Royal Victoria Marathon.
Every donation will be matched by McCall Gardens up to $5000!
