Compositions in Oil and Acrylic, inspired by the land, sea, and architecture of the Southern Gulf Islands, Portugal, and Spain
Martin Osberg has been painting for over 30 years. The most significant influences on his style have been the land and sea around Vancouver Island and the Southern Gulf Islands, and the interesting play of light and shadow on buildings in Portugal and Spain. The series "Impressions of Iberia" started during a one month painting retreat in Portugal in 2017 and has continued to develop up to the present.
The painted compositions included in HERE and THERE showcase these two distinct influences and include works in oil and acrylic on canvas, linen, wood panels and archival oil paper mounted on wood panels.
Martin Osberg has a studio above the Gage Gallery and will be in his studio painting for the duration of the show. Visitors to the gallery are invited to come up to his studio to meet and discuss his approach to painting.

Exhibition runs February 17 to March 8
Tuesday to Sunday 11 am - 5 pm
Opening Reception Thursday, February 19, 6 to 9 pm.

Three Victoria artists present Writ Large - Contemporary Works on Paper

Three Victoria artists draw on their pasts as professional writers and editors to exhibit a collection of large-format works inspired by the emotional and intellectual energy of written language.
Georgina Montgomery, Louise Oborne, and MaryLou Wakefield use words and text as part of their visual language to amplify a compelling idea, question, or life experience personally meaningful to them.
In this series, the artists demonstrate their individual stylistic approaches to interpreting 'Writ Large' and invite viewers to find their own meaning and interpretation in the works.
Writ Large will be on at arc.hive artist run centre October 4 - 19 and open for viewing Saturdays and Sundays from 12 - 4 pm.
An opening reception with the artists in attendance will be on Friday, October 3, from 7 - 9 pm.
