    DAY

    December 13, 2025      May 03, 2026

Curated by Steven McNeil, AGGV Chief Curator & Director of Exhibitions
Sharing artwork from the AGGV collection, this exhibition presents twelve prints by Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528). The selected prints showcase the artist’s extraordinary skill as a printmaker and his fascination with dramatic subjects centred on danger. Dürer’s prints often merge themes of danger and beauty, incorporating monstrous figures as well as scenes that evoke imminent or unfolding peril. Dürer’s depictions of dangerous beauty are often linked to his skill in printmaking, where he harnesses his significant technical knowledge to create a sense of the sublime.
Albrecht Dürer is an exceptionally gifted painter and printmaker of the Northern Renaissance period. Initially trained as a goldsmith, Dürer turned to printmaking as a young adult, producing woodcut prints for wide distribution, as well as engravings for a more specialized audience. He brought a level of technical skill to his profession that was groundbreaking and had a significant impact on artistic practice.

Three Victoria artists present Writ Large - Contemporary Works on Paper

Three Victoria artists draw on their pasts as professional writers and editors to exhibit a collection of large-format works inspired by the emotional and intellectual energy of written language.
Georgina Montgomery, Louise Oborne, and MaryLou Wakefield use words and text as part of their visual language to amplify a compelling idea, question, or life experience personally meaningful to them.
In this series, the artists demonstrate their individual stylistic approaches to interpreting 'Writ Large' and invite viewers to find their own meaning and interpretation in the works.
Writ Large will be on at arc.hive artist run centre October 4 - 19 and open for viewing Saturdays and Sundays from 12 - 4 pm.
An opening reception with the artists in attendance will be on Friday, October 3, from 7 - 9 pm.

In a land where myth and reality intertwine, undocumented immigrant Elif spends her days shearing sheep, each tuft of wool floating skyward to form rainclouds over a distant, wealthy city. When she becomes a mother, she travels to the capital seeking citizenship for her child, only to confront an unforgiving bureaucracy built to keep her out. At its heart, it is a powerful story of a mother determined to reshape the future for the child she loves.
