Again this year, a group of artists and creatives in the greater Fernwood area are opening their studios, homes and gardens to visitors. This year there are 20 locations in both Fernwood and Oaklands, featuring more than two dozen artists showing a wide variety of local art. There will be paintings, both abstract and realistic, ceramics, jewelry, garden art, printmaking, photography and collage. There’s even a roaming storyteller.
Since its beginning in 2008, this free, family-friendly event has welcomed guests who want to see and possibly purchase art of a variety of types. Visitors can enjoy strolling leafy streets, many with heritage homes and gardens, and exploring back yard studios and gardens full of art in one of the oldest parts of Victoria.
Brochures are being distributed to local businesses and stores around town with a detailed map of the venues and details about the participating artists.
Some artists also offer activities for families with children, and many of the locations are wheelchair accessible. Visitors can stroll the neighbourhood, enjoy food and beverages in Fernwood’s cafes and bistros, and view or purchase a wide variety of art at reasonable prices.
As an added bonus this year, the Fernwood Art Stroll is collaborating with the Fernwood Cat Walk, who's event is on Saturday, May 30th. Some of the Art Stroll participants are showing their cats as well was their art.

Three Victoria artists present Writ Large - Contemporary Works on Paper
Three Victoria artists draw on their pasts as professional writers and editors to exhibit a collection of large-format works inspired by the emotional and intellectual energy of written language.
Georgina Montgomery, Louise Oborne, and MaryLou Wakefield use words and text as part of their visual language to amplify a compelling idea, question, or life experience personally meaningful to them.
In this series, the artists demonstrate their individual stylistic approaches to interpreting 'Writ Large' and invite viewers to find their own meaning and interpretation in the works.
Writ Large will be on at arc.hive artist run centre October 4 - 19 and open for viewing Saturdays and Sundays from 12 - 4 pm.
An opening reception with the artists in attendance will be on Friday, October 3, from 7 - 9 pm.

the x is where our paths cross is an exhibition centered in the performance work of hosting and guesting through visiting, trust, and otherwise possibilities. Peter Morin (Tahltan, French Canadian) and Leah Decter (Jewish-Canadian white-settler) mark the crossing of paths across time, territories, and ancestries through reading aloud as an assertion of Indigenous sovereignty and listening-while-drawing as a practice of white-settler accountability. The exhibition features videos of performances in which Morin reads Tahltan stories “collected” by white anthropologist James Teit while Decter draws Tahltan territory from Morin’s family photos, alongside the drawings, digital photographs, and artist book produced throughout their ongoing collaboration. Morin and Decter will also present a live site-specific performance that marks a new tributary of crossing in this ongoing project.
