In Sight Festival is the result of a unique collaboration between the Arts and Culture Colwood Society and Fort Rodd Hill NHS, Parks Canada. As partners in this endeavour, they appreciate the interconnections between the arts, culture, nature, and historical awareness in building strong community bonds. Expanding on last year's inaugural success, Arts and Culture Colwood president, Laura Davis has bravely augmented this year's cultural offerings with more diverse music and an expanded program. Thanks to Parks Canada, the park admission fees have been waived, which makes it a truly affordable event for everyone and a refreshing approach to bringing the community together.

Guy Hollington began his career in glass almost by chance; an offhand comment led to an introductory course that morphed into a passion for the blown glass medium. Further study at both the Corning Museum of Glass and the Pilchuk School of Glass provided insight into more of the intricacies of glass blowing and further refinement of his technique.
The design on Guy’s stunning vase, ‘Circular Walk’, is created by the layout of hundreds of small pieces of resist which preserve the glass during sandblasting. Guy explains, “Curving metaphorical walkways wind their way around this copper blue piece.”

Listening With Ourselves: Welcome Gathering and Introduction

Everyone is welcome to the first gathering of the Listening-With project, a six-week series of workshops, conversations, and outdoor events that give space and time for asking how our personal, ancestral, and professional experiences and realities affect how we listen, and how we sound, specifically within the territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples.

Ləléʔnə Listening-With recognizes that artists and all community members have work to do with respect to the climate emergency, social justice, and a meaningful commitment to respectful relations with the original peoples of these lands.

In this opening gathering, we will pose some of the questions we have been asking about the ways we approach art, music and sound practices as a community. Over a series of workshops, conversations, presentations and outdoor practices during the month of May, we hope to begin a process of change, reconnection and to strengthen relationships through listening and soundmaking.

A final Ləléʔnə Listening-With Open Gathering on June 2 invites everyone involved in the project to share insights, ideas, practices, and possible new ways of working.

Please see main Ləléʔnəŋ Listening-With page for more information.

    *This facility is wheelchair accessible.

The welcoming gathering will include two workshops:
Sxwamales: gifts from our ancestors, a workshop led by Yuxwelupton Bradley Dick, will introduce traditionally inclusive ways of creating circle agreements with one another during shared times in Ləléʔnə Listening-With.
*Please bring an item that reflects the listening work we are coming collectively to do and how it forms your identity. The workshop is offered to prepare us for how we work with like hearts and like minds.
**A light meal will be available afterwards.
Deep Listening and Reciprocal Listening is a workshop led by Tina Pearson that brings elements from the late composer Pauline Oliveros’ Deep Listening practice; Biospheric Art Practice; listening practices and strategies from activities such as hunting, soundwalking, dreaming, and dancing; and ways to consider collective listening and sounding.
