Victoria Jazz Society Presents: Larnell Lewis

Event details

“Larnell Lewis stretches from uptime jazz to powerful rock-fusion in a very melodical and musical way. A must-have for every serious jazz-rock and fusion fan. — Jazz Rock TV

As a Toronto-based musician, composer, producer and educator, Larnell Lewis has raised the bar for drummers in the Canadian music scene. Lewis has become one of the most in-demand drummers in Canada and the USA, gaining global recognition with his collaboration alongside the three-time Grammy Award winning ensemble, Snarky Puppy. A part-time music professor at Humber College, this prolific artist appeared on the cover of Modern Drummer in September 2016 and has worked with artists such as Lalah Hathaway, Lisa Fischer, Laila Biali, and Grammy-winning gospel singer Fred Hammond.

Now, Lewis presents his debut 2018 album, In The Moment, which was nominated for a Juno Award for Jazz Album of the Year: Solo. This musical work features some of Toronto's best musicians, and explores Lewis’ deep connection to jazz, fusion, and his Afro-Caribbean roots. Joining Lewis in Victoria at Hermann’s Jazz Club is his band, Elmer Ferrer guitar, Andrew Stewart bass, Rob Christian woodwinds, Jeremy Ledbetter piano, and William Sperandei trumpet.

Larnell Lewis will also host a free-to-attend workshop/clinic at 4:00PM on Saturday, November 16 at Hermann’s Jazz Club before his ticketed evening performance. Register for this workshop by calling 250-388-4423 or e-mailing boxoffice@jazzvictoria.ca.
