  1. The total number of organizations to sign on to the BC Climate Emergency Campaign, demanding an overhaul to CleanBC, has risen to more than 235. [Regularly updated list here]. Recent signatories include The BC Young New DemocratsCanadian Senior Cohousing SocietyCo-operative Housing Federation of BCWorker Solidarity NetworkAnglican Diocese of New WestminsterDouglas Students’ Union, and many small businesses.

  2. I agree with SRB’s comment about the rules being open to interpretation, and as I noted in my story, inconsistently applied. After being told by my mother’s care home management that it was not permitted by Island Health that the Designated Visitor status could be shifted to another family member (me), my sister found a statement on the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority indicating that in “extenuating circumstances” it could be (which makes total sense). Our facility manager agreed to look into further with Island Health and (hurray!) I am about to become the Designated Visitor. So prod those inconsistencies and authorities. Like everyone else, the authorities are having to make it up—or at least refine the details—as they go along.

Make sure you fill out the survey of the Senior’s Advocate on visitation--it’s deadline of Sept 30 is nigh: www.carehomevisits.ca
