We are excited to return to the Dave Dunnet Theatre for our Spring Concert: Where We Belong – a celebration of community and relationship in song. SingYourJoy is in its 13th year of bringing great musical experiences to our audiences, and connection and belonging for our singers. SingYourJoy is a non-auditioned family of choirs serving Greater Victoria. We believe that everyone can sing and we strive to remove all barriers to participation. Children, youth and young adults experience the joy of learning new skills, building friendships and growing community as they make magical music together. SingYourJoy Victoria is a non-auditioned chorus for young adults co-founded and co-directed by Christine Chepyha & Gordon Miller. This group is a barrier-free organization – there are no fees and anyone ages 16-29 is welcome to join. Our members may be new to the city, starting new careers, entering a new field of study, or just determining who they are. SingYourJoy offers the unique opportunity of a safe space for creative expression, learning new skills, and forming new friendships. Tickets available online (https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/where-we-belong-singyourjoy-in-concert-tickets-856315652167) and at the door.

“She’s a strong songwriter and stunning singer who brings a vitality to Cohen’s work, and can melt your heart with her own songs as well.” Kelly Nakatsuka, Artistic Director Island Folk Fest, Vancouver Island From a very young age, Leonard Cohen’s songs have given Sophia Ammann a sense of home. In her career as a singer and songwriter Cohen’s work has always been a great inspiration. Today she offers you her interpretation of some of her favourite Cohen songs as well as a premiere of her solo debut work. James Bay United is pleased to present Sophia in Victoria during her Vancouver Island Spring 2023 Tour. Tickets are $20, available at the door and via Eventbrite. Sophia Ammann is a Belgian-based singer with Canadian roots. The past ten years, she’s been active as a front singer of bands Little Dots and Ansatz der Maschine. Ammann has toured in Belgium and abroad, in the Netherlands, Nepal (2018), and in 2017 a small tour in Canada was well received with national airplay on the CBC. With her latest Leonard Cohen project, Sophia was happy to play in many sold out churches throughout Flanders from 2019-2021. Beautiful & Beyond v2.0 - SingYourJoy in Concert! Saturday, April 4th: 7pm Sunday, April 5th: 3:30pm Oak Bay United Church - 1355 Mitchell Street, Victoria BC V8S 4P9 (corner of Mitchell and Granite Streets) Join this fabulous inclusive community of young adults as they share their music and celebrate new and old friendships. Our concerts feature an eclectic mix of choral presentations. Beautiful & Beyond v2.0 continues to explore all aspects of beauty - of ourselves and the world around us, the physical, the mental, the emotional, from the mundane to the world-changing and beyond. We welcome Neko Smart, Victoria’s Youth Poet Laureate, as our guest artist. Neko Smart, Victoria's eighth Youth Poet Laureate, is a graduate of Victoria High School, and the founder and former captain turned coach of the Vic High Slam Poetry Team. Neko’s passion for performance was developed through her local theatre community. She realized the importance of self expression through the arts and the significance of embracing her quirky, if not neurotic and intense, character. She encourages vulnerability in writing as a way of healing through written word. “Poetry is a means of creative expression that enables me to process the world through the lens of my anxiety disorder,” said Neko Smart, “As Youth Poet Laureate, my goal is to emphasize the importance of cultivating open dialogues about mental health in order to reduce stigma and increase safety, particularly in youth.” SingYourJoy Young Adult Chorus under the direction of Christine Chepyha and Gordon Miller, is joined by musicians Kelby MacNayr and Joey Smith. The Vancouver Men's Chorus, conducted by Willi Zwozdesky, returns to Victoria after a two year absence. Canada’s Premier Gay Men’s Chorus will perform music from their 38 year repertoire as well as highlights from Making Spirits Bright 2019. In 1981, the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus (the first gay choir), toured the United States and several men from Vancouver drove the three hours south to Seattle to hear them. On their return, they decided to start a chorus of their own performing their first concert in December of that same year. The Vancouver Men's Chorus officially became the first gay chorus in Canada, a founding member of GALA and the first international gay chorus in that organization. Under the continuing direction of conductor Willi Zwozdesky, the chorus has achieved national prominence through performances across Canada including visits to Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Victoria, Edmonton, St. John's and Montreal, and through radio broadcasts on CBC. Concert performances in the United States include San Francisco, Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland, Washington D.C., Denver, San Diego, and San Jose. In addition, broadcasts of its 1995 recording Making Spirits Bright, the 1992 recording Signature and the 2006 release of Encore have increased national exposure. Tickets online at Eventbrite.ca and in person at Long & McQuade Music Victoria and Ivy's Bookshop Oak Bay. A portion of the proceeds will support SingYourJoy Young Adult Chorus.
