Jazz at the Gallery: “Bird Songs” with pianist/ composer Karel Roessingh
Sunday, February 25th – 2 p.m.
Birds of a different feather are the theme of our second concert. Pianist/composer/producer Karel Roessingh takes the melodies of birdsongs as a starting point for a musical portrait of his recent camping trip across Canada, setting them to a rich palette of harmonies and bold brush strokes of tonal colours to create a musical collage to delight jazz lovers (and bird watchers) everywhere.
One of the brightest lights on the local music scene, Karel has made his mark with a varied background in performing, composing, and recording his own unique style of music, highly figured and rich in improvisation. He has a lengthy list of accomplishments, performance and film scores, and recordings to his credit. Listeners will be delighted by his skillful arrangements and extemporizations.
Karel Roessingh is a local hero... A Renaissance man with an eclectic career in all phases of the music business as well as a civic leader... Karel shares (Bill) Evans' quiet fire and wistful, lyrical soul... Scottish folk songs, Beatles tunes, Brazilian sambas, and jazz classics....Roessingh blows new life into them all..."
