A Vox Humana tradition. Dylan Thomas’ quintessential Christmastime story read by Victoria local and Welshman, Melville Jones, and accompanied by carols. Enjoyed best with friends and family, and appropriate for all ages!
A Child’s Christmas in Wales was written by Welsh poet Dylan Thomas and recorded by the author in 1952. It evolved from an earlier work written for BCC Radio and is an anecdotal telling of a Christmas from the perspective of a young child. It is a romanticized version of Christmases past, portraying a nostalgic and simpler time through a loose narrative structure, descriptive passages in a fictionalized autobiographical style. Through exaggerated characters and comedic elements the work portrays a youthful interpretation of Christmas memories.
This performance is ideal for all ages, including families with young child, and will feature diverse seasonal choral music by local composers David Archer and Denis Donnelly as well as works by Alfred Burt, Stephen Chatman, Ola Gjeilo, Joni Mitchell, Philip Stopford and more.
