Karel Roessingh • Birdsong in the Parkade
Late on a Sunday night in August, a Steinway grand piano was rolled into the View Street parkade in downtown Victoria. Piano tuner Greg Davidson showed up, then videographer Dave Malysheff came and set up a few cameras. Jazz pianist and composer, producer Karel Roessingh then sat down at the piano and played till 5am.
“The sound was magnificent, like a grand cathedral,” says Roessingh. The original compositions he played are all based on birdsongs he collected on a cross-Canada camping trip in 2016. A CD of the concert, Birdsong in the Parkade, has just been released.
Roessingh says the project is his most ambitious and creative project so far. Which is ambitious, given his extensive discography, his composing work for film and TV, his work in numerous high profile bands over the years, and his role on council in the District of the Highlands.
He’ll be launching the CD at a number of  house and church concerts through November and December.
Tickets for the house concerts are $20, and CDs will be sold for $10 each, with a free earlier CD thrown in. Church concerts are entry by donation. See http://roessong.com/birdsong.htm for details.CD Release Concert Schedule:
