Event details

Vancouver Island Blues Bash will be entering its 24th year in 2017. Blues Bash features blues and R & B artists/bands in both free and paid admission performances, taking place over three afternoons and two nights. Evening performances are $28 each or $45 for both. Afternoon performances are free to enjoy. Full schedule at: http://jazzvictoria.ca/blues-bash/page/schedule

This year’s featured ticketed performances are Matt Schofield and The Harpoonist & the Axe Murderer plus the Villanovas.

MATT SCHOFIELD has set the blues world ablaze with his fresh and passionate take on the genre.  Though he holds a British passport and is an inductee of the British Blues Hall of Fame, Schofield has been making his mark globally as one of the top players in the new class of six string wunderkinds.  He was named “Guitarist of the Year” three years running at the British Blues Awards and was named one of the “top ten British Blues guitarists of all time” by Guitar & Bass Magazine, alongside the likes of Eric Clapton and Peter Green.  Bursting onto the scene in 2004 with his first trio record, The Trio, Live, Schofield demonstrated a phenomenal connection with the classic blues sounds on the ‘60s.  Having since released five more studio albums and three live records, Schofield’s unmistakable sound blends influences from players like Robben Ford, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Albert King.  This incredibly gifted guitarist makes his Blues Bash debut with his band.

THE HARPOONIST & THE AXE MURDERER are relentless touring artists known for their high-energy, sweaty, dance-floor-boogying performances.  Shawn “Harpoonist” Hall vocals/harmonica and Matthew “Axe Murderer” Rogers guitar/bass/foot percussion have just released Apocalipstick, the follow up to 2014’s widely acclaimed A Real Fine Mess, which was nominated for “Blues Album of the Year” at the 2015 Juno Awards and earned the band the win for “Blues Album of the Year” and “Alternative Album of the Year at the 2015 WCMA’s.  Famous for gritty, blues-rock grooves framed by psychedelic landscapes and world-ending jam-outs, this top Canadian blues band has shared the stage with Mother Mother, Taj Mahal, Booker T Jones, and Serena Ryder.  They return to Blues Bash as a four-piece band.
